Q. How did you come up with the name, The Calm & Repose?
A. “The Calm & Repose” was drawn from a song by one of our greater influences, Brand New. The name seemed to encapsulate where we were when things got started. Coming from a number of heavy rock outfits, every one of us were searching for a break from the noise that had become our lives, and our music. The Calm & Repose gave us the opportunity to explore the delicate nature of the heart and mind and, simply put, it just made sense.

Q. How often do you practice? Is there a designated leader of the practice sessions?
A.In terms of scheduled sessions we practice twice a week. We’ve been blessed with the convenience of having what has in essence become the “band house.” With the ability to write and record at virtually every waking moment, we often do so regardless of a practice schedule. Generally speaking, Tony is the concept writer for a lot of our material so for the most part, he sparks the sessions and we stoke the fire.

What style of music or particular bands influences your sound?
A. We draw influence from a conglomeration of sources. In a past life the majority of our current members were a part of a hardcore band therefor a lot of our roots lie in heavy music, however, beyond that our individual influences vary greatly from country, to jazz, and even hip hop. Inspiration can be found in everything, and we try to utilize the intricacies of our individual personas to consummate our sound.

Q. Think of a funny story or memory which occurred at a show or practice that you would like to share.
A. In all honesty, just about every minute with Critchfield is comical. He’s a walking comedy show. But seriously- we love to laugh and we do so often. We’re certainly a group filled with a plethora of stories, most of which end with “You just had to be there..”

Q. What are upcoming dates of other shows?
A. We’re honored to say we’ve been invited to play at this years Black Stock Music Festival on May 31st. We’re scheduled to go on mid-afternoon.

Q. Is there anything that sets Bella Love shows apart from other shows you have been a part of?
A. As artists and musicians, we play a part in creating beautiful culture within society, one that thrives on local support and the collective development of the arts through communal growth. We believe Bella Love embodies these beliefs and that makes our relationship with Bella Love very important to us, and the future of the arts within our community and others.

Q. How did you come up with the name, Knowne Ghost?
A. Cade came up with the name. The band struggled for two months trying to discover a new name that matched the concept we were aiming for. We knew we wanted something that hinted at the “transcendentalism” of society, but also captured eminence of daily life.

Q. What was the previous name?
A. True Money

Q. Name a few bands or styles of music which influence your sound.
A.  We’ve had influences mostly originate from the post-punk scene as well as influences from Nugaze. Even despite these two genres having such weight, we all maintain a heart for southern influence that can be heard on several of our songs. In a way it is hard to label any bands as playing a predominate role. Instead, the draw we have to the sounds of bands in different scenes of music affects our approach to the songs, and in turn the soundscape we attempt to craft. But to answer he question: NWA, Hansen, King Crimson, Chumbawamba, and GWAR. RIP Oderus Urungus. )

Q. Do any of you have solo music projects?
A. Both Bobby and Cade have side projects. Bobby keeps his projects mostly to himself. Cade is concentrated primarily on his involvement in Knowne Ghost, but he has songs set aside with the intention of a solo album.

Q. Is there anything about Bella Love events that stands out from other shows you have been a part of?
A. Bella Love is set apart in the way it brings community together. Artists support artists and make connections that last outside of just the Bella Love scene. We love playing there, and we love seeing the new projects that tend to debut there.

Q. How did you come up with the name Weaker Captain?
A. We were writing down a bunch of different words on a sheet of paper, and we saw Weaker Captain. It made a good combo. It originally started out as “The Weaker Captain” but we changed it to just Weaker Captain.

Q. Name a few bands or styles of music which influence your sound.
A. Post rock/punk/rock influenced by Manchester Orchestra, Thursday, Brand New, Circa Survive and At the Drive-In

Q. How often do you practice?
A. We usually try and practice as much as possible depending on work schedules. Here recently it’s been about 3 times a week. Contact: weakercaptainofficial@gmail.com

Q. Is there anything about Bella Love events that stands out from other shows you have been a part of?
A. Well, it’s simple, Bella Love has its own style. They treat all their acts like family, rather than just business. They’re good people that actually care about the local scene.
