Weekend: Reptiles, Highland Games, Hop Into Spring

This weekend is full of family activities to keep you and the kids busy. Get ready for Easter with the Easter Bunny visits in Cornelius at the Cornelius Arts Center on Friday and Bailey Road Park on Saturday. There’s the Pawz Too Run 5K and dog walk that will feature pet vendors and adoptable dogs and Reptile Day at Davidson College, both on Saturday. For the adults, there are meetings on the widening of West Catawba Avenue and motorist and cyclist safety. There are gallery crawls in Cornelius and Davidson on Friday and the Loch Norman HIghland Games’ Saturday night Celtic Jam.

On Thursday, Woodland Discovery presents a free storytelling and musical performance by Hawk Hurst in Concord. There’s a meeting on the project to widen West Catawba Avenue in Cornelius and there’s a cyclists and motorists safety discussion in Davidson.

Friday morning, the Easter bunny visits the Cornelius Arts Center. There are gallery crawls in Cornelius and Davidson and Dublin born Danny Ellis will be performing at the Great Aunt Stella Center in Charlotte.

Highland Games

Highland Games events include Scottish athletics, fiddling and music competitions and children’s activities.

The Loch Norman Highland Games run Saturday and Sunday at Rural Hill in Huntersville. There will be live traditional and Celtic rock music, over 65 Scottish clans and their representatives, genealogy searches, Piping, Drumming, and Highland Dancing sanctioned competitions, Scottish country dancing, massed band performances, professional heavy athletics, and the popular Saturday night Celtic Jam.

The Pawz Too Run 5k and Dog Walk is on Saturday morning in Davidson. Vendors will be present with items and services focused on the health and well-being of people and their pets and adoptable dogs will be showcased.

It’s Reptile Day at Davidson College on Saturday. This family friendly event will feature many live animals and educational booths.

Hop Into Spring is also Saturday in Cornelius. It will offer an afternoon filled with family fun, including arts & crafts, an inflatable obstacle course, a balloon artist, face painting, a DJ and of course a visit from Peter Cottontail. The New York Theatre Ballet will be performing in Statesville on Saturday also.

Sunday, The Loch Norman Highland Games come to a close and there’s a Lake Norman Juggler’s Club meeting.
