Food trucks, outdoor film, ice cream blood drive

Our Events Calendar remains full of both regularly scheduled meetings and special events this coming week. The Cornelius Town Board meets Monday night, while  Davidson Commissioners meet Tuesday.  Food truck Wednesday will be back at the Oak Street Mill Wednesday, Several other meetings, service opportunities, and bicycle and running races are taking place in the area this week. Read on for a summary,  and visit our Events Calendar (at right) for day by day listings.

This Wednesday, make plans to get lunch in Downtown Cornelius with Lunch in the Lot, a weekly food truck rally featuring innovative and affordable local cuisine. The truck or trucks are there from between 11am and 2pm. While eating, don’t be alarmed by the McGuire nuclear siren test which begins at 11:50am – it’s only a test. Wednesday evening, Cornelius PARC’s Outdoor Cinema Series continues at Kenton Place with a screening of “Here Comes the Boom” starting around 8:30pm.

On Thursday, Ben & Jerry’s Davidson hosts a blood drive where donors receive free ice cream, as well as a coupon for a pint of ice cream afterwards. Make an appointment online at redcrossblood.org  using the sponsor code “Ben and Jerrys Davidson.” The Women’s Issues Therapy Group at Davidson United Methodist Church’s Counseling Center will continue to meet on Thursdays from 6:30-8pm. Two races are on the calendar for this weekend. Concord Parks & Recreation is hosting the annual Streetlight 5k & Frolic this Friday at 6pm on Union Street, and the 6th Annual Lake Norman Excursion Cycle/Run will take place this Saturday starting at Lowe’s Headquarters in the morning.

Saturday’s Farm Tour titled “Tops, Middles, or Bottoms?” with World of Wonder will take place at various farms in the area, and requires pre-registration to attend.
